Fable’s morality system isn’t just a “good/evil meter.” When it works, it changes how you play, how NPCs treat you, and what kind of legend you leave behind.
Three layers of morality
- Actions: what you do (steal, help, betray, spare)
- Reputation: what the world thinks you do
- Consequences: what the world becomes because of it
What we want from the reboot
If the reboot doubles down on the system, the ideal outcome is:
- meaningful quest branches that don’t feel cosmetic
- rewards that support different playstyles (not just “good = best”)
- world-state changes you can actually notice
A simple framework for roleplay
When you’re deciding a build or a quest approach, ask:
- What would my hero do when no one is watching?
- What am I willing to sacrifice to “do the right thing”?
- If I choose power now, what does it cost later?
